Years ago, I began my journey by helping others as a personal trainer based on the 'calories in, calories out' method, believing that was the key to weight loss and well-being.
Thatโs probably how most people still see me, but over the last few years I pivoted to a more holistic, functional approach after realizing this method wasnโt enough to help women truly break free from their struggles with weight and life balance.
Not only has this approach transformed the lives of my clients, but itโs also been a game-changer for my own health, helping me restore balance and feel my best, especially as I am in perimenopause.
I focus on helping women, especially those 35 and over, restore balance in their bodies, particularly those stepping into or fully immersed in perimenopause or post-menopause.
While Iโm not a โweight lossโ coach, one of the most common results I help women achieve is losing weight and keeping it off. That might sound contradictory, but as you continue to read, youโll gain a clearer understanding.

Most women come to me feeling exhausted, struggling with stubborn weight, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances.
They often think if they just cut calories and exercise more, as theyโve always done, it will be the answer. But theyโre confused and frustrated because it isnโt working anymore.
I practice functional nutrition. This approach is tailored to meet your unique needs, very different from standard nutrition approaches.
Functional nutrition takes all 12 of our bodyโs systems into consideration as well as areas of your life off the plate, such as the quality of your relationships, your stress levels, and even your sleep routine. All of these factors impact the way your body processes and assimilates the food you eat.
If you donโt sleep well or experience high stress, youโre not setting your body up to utilize the quality nutrients youโre feeding it. It is a whole-body and life approach. By doing so, I help women restore metabolic balance in their bodies and lives.
The issue arises when people believe that standard advice like "eat less, exercise more" will get them results, but this approach often overlooks key factors like gut health, hormone imbalances, and stress.
These are typically not addressed in conventional approaches and are crucial to understanding your bodyโs unique needs, as we do in functional nutrition.
In functional nutrition, we dig deeper, looking at each individualโs bio-individuality to uncover the root causes behind your symptoms.
From a science-based perspective, when hormones, gut health, and stress levels are aligned, weight loss naturally becomes a byproduct of balance. This isnโt just a beliefโitโs rooted in how the body functions optimally when these systems work together in harmony.

Many of my clients are told by their doctors that their labs are "within range," yet they still feel exhausted, continue to gain weight, and continue to experience other frustrating symptoms. This leaves them even more confused.
The reason for this is that these labs are being viewed through the lens of conventional medicine, where ranges are often determined by comparing a wide sample of the populationโmany of whom already have health issuesโrather than focusing on what is optimal for your health.
Plus, labs are just one piece of the puzzleโthey don't always give the full picture.
Take thyroid function, for example. Many doctors only test for TSH and T4, which provides a limited view of thyroid health.
Whatโs missing are key markers like free T3, reverse T3, or even antibodies. These markers offer deeper insights into how your metabolism is functioning.
By focusing only on TSH and T4, many critical details get missed, which can leave you stuck with unresolved deeper issues.

Many women believe they need to โsee a doctor to find out whatโs going on,โ assuming the doctor holds the key to their symptoms, ultimately giving them the solution to their desired results. But what they often get is a 10-minute visit where their day-to-day habits, nutrition, stressors, and lifestyle arenโt fully considered.
Instead, theyโre told to "eat less, exercise more," or, my personal favorite (eye roll), theyโre prescribed antidepressants and/or birth control without addressing the root cause of their issues.
While I have deep respect for doctors, it's important to remember that they are not health builders. Itโs like going to a realtor to buy a carโthey donโt sell cars, just like many doctors arenโt trained to help you build long-term health. Thatโs where functional nutrition comes in.
Think of your health like a constellationโmany factors, like stars, come together to form the whole.

While labs can sometimes confirm suspicions, in my functional approach, symptoms are often the clearest indicators of whatโs going on beneath the surface. Most of the time, I can identify what needs attention without relying solely on tests, and while this may sound bold, itโs grounded in science. I also stay within my scope of practice.
In functional nutrition, I focus on key areas like gut health, stress management, sleep quality, and hormonal balance to get to the root of your symptoms and restore balance.
This approach helps women achieve sustainable weight loss and greater overall health.
However, if I feel further testing is necessaryโsuch as a GI MAPS test, DUTCH test, or even basic blood workโI can provide access to these tests. You donโt need to go elsewhere for this; I work with you to make sure weโre covering all bases.

One test I automatically include in my coaching is the Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA). This test provides crucial insight into your bodyโs mineral balance, which plays a major role in hormone function. For instance, dysfunctions that occur on a cellular level when your body is under chronic stress prevent nutrients from entering your cells properly, impacting your metabolism, adrenal health, and thyroid function.
The HTMA helps us see these imbalances and take appropriate action. Minerals are foundational to hormone balance, and this test allows us to understand how to restore your bodyโs optimal function. I like to say the HTMA test is almost as good as turning your body inside out to see what is going on inside!
